Hard coatings protect plastics in machine or vehicle glazing and lighting applications. Plastic coating improves the durability and performance of lightweight Aikon® PC and PMMA sheets. Thermal and UV-cured hard coatings are an excellent solution for exterior protection for vehicles or machines. Improved physical properties of Aikon® plastic sheets help to develop fuel-efficient and long-range electric vehicles of the future. Coatings also promote energy efficiency and safety in architectural applications. Thanks to advanced UV absorbers, hard coatings can provide non-yellowing, optimal protection against ultraviolet rays.
Plastic coating provides various benefits, such as significantly better scratch resistance, weather resistance, and improved resistance to chemicals and solvents. In addition, the plastic coating helps maintain the colour, gloss, light transmission, and other physical properties of transparent Aikon® PC Hard and Aikon® PMMA Hard sheets.
We use an automated coating line in the plastic coating process. The automated line has a machine vision, which ensures a high optical quality of coating. The machine vision monitors the quality and indicates if there are any quality deviations in the transparent Aikon® plastic sheets. In addition, the high quality of prototypes is ensured through quality control tests. The concentration of coating agents is measured in a testing laboratory. Similarly, the thickness of the agent in the coated plastic sheet is measured to ensure a consistent quality.
We can hard coat flat plastic sheets and 3D parts:
PHC 587 is a hard coating providing increased scratch resistance for polycarbonate sheets. It is a clear and non-yellowing silicone coating that offers optimal protection. The coating protects PC sheets from ultraviolet radiation, heat, cold or snow, but it also resists damage from sand and dirt.
The coating complies with the ECE Automotive Regulations for European forward lighting applications. Also, PHC 587 coating complies with DOT FMVSS #108, and is in the AMECA list of acceptable plastics for optical lenses and reflectors used on motor vehicles.
AS-4000 is a premium hard coating creating high performance for polycarbonate sheets. It is a thermally cured, clear, non-yellowing coating agent. AS-4000 provides optimal protection against ultraviolet radiation, heat, cold, rain, and snow, as well as ice. It also provides resistance to damage from sand and dirt.
The main benefits of AS-4000 are weatherability, scratch resistance and good clarity. The coating is primary used to protect and improve properties of PC sheets.
AS-4700 is a supreme hard coating with a SHP470 base coating to protect primary polycarbonate substrates against effects of harsh environment. The coating is thermally cured, and it provides superior abrasion resistance and weather resistance to PC sheets.
It is the best performing hard coating of SilFORT coatings. AS-4700 does not only protect clear PC sheets but it also offers excellent protection to black polycarbonate sheets against UV-radiation.
