    Plastic laminating

Our laminating solutions fulfill the future - together with you.

Laminating improves physical properties of a plastic sheet

Plastics laminating is a process where two or more layers of material are put together to create multi-layered plastic sheet. Laminating improves the physical properties of a plastic sheet, such as the impact strength, stability, and sound insulation. Laminated plastic solutions provide a better level of protection for demanding application requirements. For example, the windows and sunroof of vehicles or machines can be hit by stones or tree branches so windows manufactured from laminated plastic sheets protect the operator of the machine.

Plastic laminating enables integrating smart technologies

Aikon plastic laminating process utilizes modern technologies to meet the customer requirements. The layered, laminated plastic structure allows integrating additional features, such as electrically operating shading or heating films, and various transparent displays. By integrating innovative features, you can ensure the top-quality of your products.

    Custom shading with smart films

We use Gauzy's SPD and PDLC technologies to turn laminated windows into smart glass. Gauzy's smart films create dynamic, light-controlled spaces for demanding applications. Shading films are an excellent solution for example for machines or vehicles operating in sunny or hot conditions.

SPD film blocks 99.5% of light, allowing windows to dim and tint without blocking the view. The solution create comfort and creates an optimal shading choice for exterior windows across industries. PDLC film can change glazing from opaque to clear providing privacy and temperature control. It can also be used as a  projection screen or whiteboard.

    Transparent displays

We use LUMINEQ® smart solutions to integrate transparent displays into laminated windows. The transparent displays are designed to connect physical and digital turning windows into interactive displays. Transparent displays can be laminated into windshields, side windows, sunroofs, and doors to show dynamic information of a vehicle or machine, for example.

The technology enables manufacturers to build safer vehicles that improve ergonomics, situation awareness and user experience for drivers, operators, as well as passengers. Machine operators can see vital information while keeping their view on their work. The transparent display can provide information such as speed, the temperature of the engine, fuel level, as well as other data.

    Electrically heated windows

Heated windows provide advantages to applications such as various work machines, ski lifts, and boats. Heated windows contain wires that defrost the window, and the heating system works at the push of a button. They are manufactured by laminating an electrically conductive film between polycarbonate or acrylic sheets. The heating does not impair the optical properties of a laminated window.

For example, windows of machines that operate in snowy conditions can be cleared in a few minutes with the system. The operator has better visibility in extreme weather conditions, including rain, snow and fog. In addition, heated windows are quieter than running the heater to defrost the windows.

    Main benefits of plastic laminating

    • Significantly improved impact strength
    • Increased machine protection
    • Improved durability and safety of the material
    • Possibility to turn regular windows into smart glass
    • Possibility to manufacture bulletproof windows

    Applications where laminating is needed

    • Safety glazing for vehicles
    • Security glazing in banks
    • Defence and security applications
    • Yachts and boats
    • Applications that want to utilize
      smart technologies

High quality is ensured by quality control tests

High quality of safety glazing is essential customer requirement. We ensure the optical quality by following DIN 52305 standard in testing practices. Quality control tests according to DIN 52305 standard determine the optical distortion and refractive power of safety glazing material for road vehicles.

Laminating is powered by Scholz autoclave

Scholz autoclave is a customed, high technology autoclave for high quality laminating. The complete autoclave system has pressure and temperature control for production of laminated windows. The diameter of the autoclave is 2.6 meters, and the length is 4 meters.

The autoclave can be used to laminate flat high-performance plastic sheets in maximum size of 2000 mm x 3000 mm. Curved parts to be laminated can be in size of 700 mm x 2000 mm x 3000 mm.

Laminated glazing solutions from PC and PMMA

Polycarbonate is an extremely impact resistance material. Its impact strength is 200 times greater than glass. Acrylic is inherently a hard and abrasion resistant material. Laminating improves the impact resistance of plastic materials and laminated PC sheets are a superior material to the safety glazing of work machines and special vehicles.
